Description
Hannah had her trip all planned out: travel to Seoul, meet her birth mother, and spend a golden summer creating precious memories together. But when she arrives, reality hits hard. Her Umma works tirelessly in a convenience store, barely pausing between shifts and seemingly more focused on stacking shelves and arranging garden gnomes than reconnecting with her long-lost Australian daughter.
Though Hannah is Korean, in Umma’s eyes she’s a “Koreaboo”—a foreigner enchanted by K-Pop, kimchi, and hanboks. Armed with only Google Translate and unwavering optimism, Hannah must try to find her place in Umma’s world before the sweltering summer ends.
Inspired by real events from the life of playwright and performer Michelle Lim Davidson (The Feather in the Web, The Newsreader), this heartfelt and deeply personal play marks her writing debut. Michelle also stars in the production, directed by Jessica Arthur (The Dictionary of Lost Words).
A Queensland premiere of a Griffin Theatre Company production at La Boite Theatre Company, this touching reunion story reaches across continents, cultures, and Spotify® playlists.
